Is it normal to have to go through 1st and 2nd gears to get revers in my 92 fox

No. do you mean you cant get it into reverse unless you put it in first or second?

I have always found that its easier to get the trans into reverse if I put it in first gear before reverse, All my mustang T5's have done that
