I know you'll need the pedal quadrant from a stick car, the trans hump will need to be tweaked, you'll need to mount the clutch slave and master cylinder or cable, and the correct crossmember. That's the stuff I can think I've, I'm pretty sure there are a few more odds and ends.

Hey Dave, you'll definitely need a clutch pedal assembly, a clutch cable and quadrant since it's not a hydraulic clutch, flywheel and bolts, clutch kit with a pilot bearing, clutch fork, bellhousing, a T5 or Tremec transmission, etc. Many Mustang salvage yards have complete, ready-to-install manual transmission kits to make the swap that much easier. If you have to find everything piece-meal, that can consume a lot of time and money, too. Good luck.

I apologize, I didn't answer your question on whether this swap is worth it. I'm a stick-shift guy so I automatically think a stick car is a ton more fun than an AOD car. However, I've driven a couple automatic cars, and talked to a buddy of mine who loves his Fox AOD hatch, and I heard the tires struggling for traction all the way through first gear over the cell phone. So to answer your question, this swap is up to you and your personal tastes. If you're a stick shift guy then you'll probably never be happy with an AOD car. Maybe adding a converter, a shift kit, and 4.10 gears will help satisfy your hunger for speed. I'd try that stuff first. If you're still not happy, get in there and swap that AOD out of that car.

This would be a direct swap if you get all the parts from
a manual mustang. I switched my 87 Cougar XR7 to a 5 speed with slight mods. You may need to change the computer for they are different between stick and auto and redoing the nutral safety switch. I did it all myself with good results. I surprise a lot pf people.
