My 1988 Mustang GT 5.0 equipped with speed density cuts out between 3500-4000 rpms, its sounds like it isnt getting any gas once it gets to this range. I just changed the intank fuel pump, it now starts easier but still no change. The fuel pressure regulator isn't leaking at all. The cap, rotor, plugs and wires have less than 200 miles on them. Could it be a firing or a computer-related issue. Also I had the TFI ignition module tested at a Auto Zone store and it tested good. What should I try next. Please help!!!

Do you have an aftermarket ignition system on the car?

What about the ignition module? How old is it? If new, did you use the white insulating grease ont he backside of the module before mounting it to the distributor?

Its a new NAPA ECHLIN module with less than 200 miles on it. I did put the dieelectric grease on the back of it. A few days ago I had it tested at a Auto Zone store and it tested good

I have a gut feeling that it may be one or some of the fuel injectors or in the ECU(onboard computer)

SOUNDS LIKE EITHER DIRTY INJECTORS OR NO INJECTOR PULSE FROM INJECTOR. TEST YOUR INJECTORS

Hello crown504. I changed the distributor and the engine sounded better but still no change, also changed the ECM, still no change. What else???? Pretty soon I'll be bringing it to the local Mustang expert

I also thinking fuel pressure problems such as a possible clog in the fuel system: injectors or fuel rail. Who knows? I'll know soon once the local Mustang expert diagnoses it for me. If nothing good comes of it, I may convert it over to a carburetor
