Sorry for the newbie question, but, is it correct that on a mini tub, you retain the original location of the coil springs, move the shocks inward and remove completely, the "mini shocks"?

thanks.

the technical answer is, it depends! A mini tub is always a custom job. It's not like they just bolt-on like pretty much everything else on our cars. You can mini-tub a fox and keep the shocks and struts in their original location.

First of all, if you have good control arms you can remove the quad shocks. They're useless. Second, if you need a lot of room for rubber (28x10.50-15 on a lowered car) you might mini-tub it something along the lines of NMRAs rules for mini-tubbed cars. They allow you to run the inside surface of the tubs (the vertical part) all the way to the INSIDE surface of the rear frame rails. That means you're actually notching the rear frame rails a couple inches for max clearance. On a fox, you'll have about 15" width from quarter panel to mini tub. On a 99+ car, you'll have about 17". If you run your mini-tubs THAT far in, you'll HAVE to relocate your shocks/springs. However, I've seen smaller mini-tub jobs that keep basically stock locations on the shocks/springs.

hope this helps.
