Ok well I am a recent converted chevy guy. I have had a lot of fast chevy's and this is my first Mustang effort, although I did have a 1993 Lightning with a few bolt ons about 7 years ago. Anyway I have a 1989 Mustang GT with a all forged 306 short block, TFS Track heat aluminum heads, TFS Stage II camshaft, Performer II upper/lower, 30 lbs injects,80mm mass air, full msd ignition(dist,6al,timing control) bbk shorties with a 2 1/2 inch off road exhaust(no cats), tremec 3550 trans, king cobra clutch, aluminum driveshaft, 4.11 8.8 rear end, NO A/C, Smog pump, or clutch fan(aluminum rad with electric fan). The only suspension mods so far is adjustable drag shocks.
I went to the track and was only able to lay down 2 passes because a storm rolled in and shut down the track, but the car ran 14.4 at 97 mph. I spun my tires through 1st gear and it hooked pretty good in 2nd. I didn't really get a chance to experiment with launches because of the rain but I have the same problem on the street as far as traction in 1st gear, its basically non-exsistent. That being said I still felt like the car should have posted a better number. My 60ft was in the 2.3 and 2.4 range. I also have a Zex nitrous system on the car with the 125 jet in it right now, i didn't get a chance to run with the nitrous ON.
My question is what does everyone think this combination SHOULD run with better traction off the juice?? I ordered upper and lower trailing arms and M/T street ET's for it, so I am thinking my traction problems will be alleviated greatly.
I was a little disappointed in the times, I thought the car could overcome the traction issue a little and still get into the 13's. What should be my next step?? My goal would be to run a low 12 or high 11, is that possible with this combo?? Or do I need more cubes??
It has no driveability issues, runs strong, idles fine, so I don't believe it has any major tuning issues. The timing was retarded about 2 degrees from were I usually run it at on those 2 passes because I was planning on spraying it before the rain came. Also i am in St. Louis so elevation isn't major.
Does anyone know of any resources on how traction effects your mph in the 1/4. I have heard 2 different theories on it. Thanks for any input!!

UPR Pro Series rear suspension and 275/50-15 ET Street Radials should give you at least a 1.60 or better sixty foot. The car should be in the low 12s with that combo. Then again, even spinning, the car should've gone 109+ through the traps. I don't know what theories you heard on traction vs. mph, but a bad sixty foot doesn't effect the trap speed that much.

I think it's a little easy for someone who doesn't know a person to say "you dont know how to drive". I have had 11 second cars in the past and have been drag and oval racing for almost 20 years. That being said I did NOT power shift it, it was the first time that car has been to the track, and the first time I have been to a "drag" strip in about 4 years(so I am sure i am a little rusty, since i have been doing mostly oval the last few years). The shifts between gears was fast and smooth. The only problem I had was launching the car, like I said in the above post it spun all the way though first gear, it doesn't sit in 1 spot and spin it actually moves out decently but I do lose a ton of time in 1st gear. I just installed upper and lower trailing/control arms on the rear, moroso drag springs, and M/T street ET's. So I am assuming next Tuesday at the track will be much better for me.
As far as nitrous being for girls, I think you will find thousands and thousands of people who disagree with that statement. I have been using nitrous since the mid 80's when all we had was crude kits to piece together and have found it very effective and very little maintenance if you know how to tune the engine. Sure you have to fill the bottle but until I piece together a turbo or supercharger ,nitrous is the easiest route for my car at this time.
I asked the question in the above post because I have very little experience with 302's or 306's and I just wanted to know what I can expect out of it with and without the juice and how far off I am from a typical 306 powered stick mustang with the above mods. I guess I will know more next Tuesday when the track re-opens. I think I should have my traction issues about sorted out. I still haven't found any good information on mph and how it relates to traction, etc.. I never took the time to study it to much when I had my drag monte/novas.

I'll reiterate that a bad sixty foot doesn't affect the trap speed as much as the ET. In a car like yours every tenth of a second is worth about TWO in the quarter.
For example, let's say your ET streets drop your 60' down from 2.4 to 1.6. Now your 14.4 ET becomes a 12.80. Speed will probably be around 102-3. Small change in mph, big change in ET.
Still though, your engine combination with a good tune and dead hooking on the ET streets (1.50s in the sixty) should be in the 11s. Not cracking on you. Just telling you you've got a GREAT motor combo. Get the most out of it and you'll be kicking some butt!!!

Thanks for the info. I would be excited if it dipped into the 11's. I am hoping for a mid 12, anything better than that is more than I originally expected.
