i have an 89 gt hatchback and my latch on the hatch took a *** a few weeks ago. i have been looking online and cant seem to find any store out there that sell them. apparently they are a discontinued item and no one has them anywhere. does anyone know where i can find one of these or if there is any other year beside 86-93 that will work with my 89?

Well, no answer, just good luck on this. My 86 came w/ a busted remote latch.  I got her open to find out why my taillights kept blowing out (small town==same cop kept finding me on the ride home), then figured out how it works, lubed the springs so each side of the "claw" would work when I slammed the lid down...and haven't bothered to open it since.

If you've tried everywhere....take the whole apparatus to your local junkyard, and see what fits in dimensions and bolt hole location...and try it out and let us know.

Detriot likes to reuse parts when it can to save cash, but...Ford didn't make many hatchbacks.  I know the old Escorts came w/ 'em, but will the latch be the same?  Don't know.  Maybe the T'birds of the same year? Its been so long since I've owned either, I can't tell ya for sure, only guessing...but go look, and let us know.
