The check engine light came on the the machanic said it was the cam shaft positioning sensor. What is it and how hard is it to change? 94 mustang 3.8 liter, automatic.

The cmp sensor is in the distributor, it's the narrow vane on the hall effect interuptor. You didn't say what your symptoms are, so I'd say you need to change either the pick-up or the dist. if you're having a hard start, no start or stalling problem. Dist. is easy to change, but more expensive. Pick-up is harder, but cheaper.
