I have a stock 1988 Mustang GT 5.0 5-speed with speed density. I've changed the fuel pump, spark plugs, fuel pressure regulator, MAP Sensor and replace the distributor with a rebuilt one. Its getting fire to all 8 spark plugs but it still wont turn above 3500 rpms. All I can think of next is the ECM or the fuel injectors. Please help???????

Did you change the fuel filter? If yes, then it sounds like the factory rev limiter is going bonkers, so it could be a computer problem.

I did change the fuel filter. Is the factory rev limiter built into the ECM?

If it is the computer, now is the time to convert it to Mass Air. That will pave the way for easier mods in the future. Double check your timing and fuel pressure to make sure they are correct. If you don't already have one, pick up a Hayne's or Chilton's manual for your car.

check the plastic fuel lines for kinks or anything like that. when we pulled my motor someone wasnt watching them and they got pulled on. replaced them with a little piece of rubber hose and works well. also check the fuel pressure when its running and at 3500 and wont rev higher. if its a fuel problem the pressure should drop. and i dont think its fuel injectors cause i had 2 bum injectors and my car would still pull til like 5000 or 5500 rpm's. I can't rememeber.

I tried a new TPS sensor and changed the fuel pressure regulator, still no difference. I pulled the ECM out, it appeared to be burned, replaced it with a new one-still no difference, also bought a rebuilt distributor-still no difference. I didnt spend very much money on these parts considering this is a 21 year old car. Within the next month when I get up some extra $$$$$$ I'll bring it to the local Mustang expert and he's gonna connect a laptop to it and hopefully that'll tell the tale
