Fun Ford Weekend / Battle of the Brands Cancelled ????

HEY!!!!!!!!!! Does anyone know what the heck happened??? It was cancelled today April 6, 2009! I was surely lookin forward to ours here in Virginia! Did something happen in georgia??? Virginia motorsports park confirmed it for me! FFW wont answer their phone or email! Any info would help!

I do not know exactly why this happened, or if it's indeed true, so I can only suspect the current economy, competition from other racing sanctioning bodies, and I think its Atlanta event was rained out. I'm sure that last fact didn't help. It may have been the straw that broke the camel's back. Again, this is purely speculation, if this is true. There are several other racing sanctioning bodies to follow so get out there and enjoy some racing.

5.0 Mustang and Super Fords

American Autosports was the first to put on Ford specific events through out the country when they started Fun Ford Weekend 19 years ago. They had events as far northeast as Hew Hampshire, as far south as Orlando and they even ventured out west with events in Phoenix and California. At the height of Fun Ford, they had a year end points fund that included a one year lease on a new Ford vehicle. There is nothing left on the Battle of Brands website except for a statement.
But they were not immune to the effects of the economy. They had changed from Fun Ford Events to Battle of the Brands for this year. With dwindling attendance, they thought the best thing to do would be to open the races up to all brands and makes of cars. After two races this year, with poor attendance and bad weather, they have thrown in the towel. The following message was posted on the Fun Ford Events website.

“Due to the current economic climate American Autosports Productions, Inc., producers of Fun Ford Weekend and Battle Of The Brands series has ceased operations. We fully appreciate the continuous support from sponsors, participants and fans. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

"It is always a sad day to lose another place to race and we hope the economy turns around for everyone."

This is very unfortunate, I always loved going to these events..
We have decided to try to pick up where FFW /BBTB left off, We are starting off small due to the slow economy, but we will be hosting several races this year and start up strong next year (2011) with our "21st Century Muscle Car Shootout"
