What fan are you installing on the car? If it's an aftermarket fan, the instructions should give you a hint as to where to get keyed-on power.

don't skimp here man... we have a saying at my mobile electronics shop: "it's all fun and games until you're standing on the side of the road with your car on fire!"
Use the battery as your power source. Power the fan with a relay and trigger it with a ground inside the car or with ignition switched power. Just make sure that if you tap a power circuit in the car, you use a fuse!!

Bought a 2 speed 4500 cfm Taurus fan.....and a relay/thermostat kit. Calls for one "hot" all the time, and one "keyed hot", then the ground. Been recommended that I wire the high speed to get the full advantage of the equipment. The relay/switch also has a thermostat bypass circuit to wire into the a/c power so that the fan will run whenever the a/c is on.
Looking for the most convenient keyed hot circuit.

Of the like 52 wires at the radio.....which is switched positive....it's probably a big gauge red one (or black with red or something......before I pull it out and get confused........), huh?

different years, different colors, so I've never bothered to memorize them...
okay, just took a quick peek at my '89 LX. Looks like it's the solid yellow wire on my car. I won't guarantee you it's the same on your car. Car Audio is actually how I make a living and I've seen way too many of these fox body cars have different setups to say for sure that it's one way or the other.
SUPER long shot, but if you're anywhere near Somerset, Kentucky, I'll wire it for you at my shop. (not that we specialize in free work, just trying to help out a fellow Mustang man)

OK....back into it today....pulled radio....on the power harness, there are several striped wires, a heavy gauge red, and a heavy gauge yellow.....sound like a constant power and a switched power?.....red constant and yellow switched?
