The hubs and axles are one pc. to change from a 5 lug to a 4 lug is to buy a set of 4 lug axles for the 9" from an axle manufacturer like moser. The 8.8" rearend axles are held in place with c clips whereas the 9" axles are bolted in. The c clips are a common reason why everyone wants to change to the 9" also reasons are they can hold more power and are easier and quicker to change gears at the track. If your not making alot of power, or need quick gear changes at the track. I would suggest staying with the 8.8" they have been proven to hold up to over 900+Hp. What I would do is an axle conversion to the bolt in style. Those c-clips are a must to get rid of. If and when they fail you will launch tire, axle, and all off that side of the car. Usually this occurs at faster speeds than at slower speeds, making recovery almost impossible. So hopefully you and anyone else isn't hurt. You can get those conversion axle kits about anywhere.
