Well, I don't think the temp gauge being in a certain spot helps us with diagnosis, but just for giggles try a code scanner. A past owner might have turned off the check engine light. You can go to some parts stores like Advance Auto Parts or Autozone, and sometimes they will scan a car for free. Check that out, or if your car won't make it to the parts store you may have to buy a scanner to take home with you.

It's time to seek professional help. Are there any Mustang shops near you?

I think I had a similar problem a few years ago on my '99 GT but I think mine threw a code and it was the idle control valve fwd of the intake elbow. My situation, if I can remember, was that I had to rev it to keep it from stalling out at the stop light and my revs would drop too quickly if I didn't gas it constantly while driving. Autozone is pretty good about checking codes for free and the valve wasn't too expensive.

Pep Boys said that a fuel pump if not working will not show up on a code scanner ? Does anyone know if this is true?

Sounds like what I went through when fuel pump went on my 96 explorer, although its 5.0 maybe samething as on your car -it did not show a check engine light or scan any codes
