I have a 1988 Mustang GT 5.0 and I was recently informed by a very reputable mechanic that the T-5 in it is from a 4-cylinder Mustang. Is the 28-spline alloy driveshaft yoke compatible with this transmission. Eventually I'm gonna swap the tranny once I find the time to do it

I don't know for sure, but my '94 Cobra had a 4-cylinder T5 when I bought it. I reused the same driveshaft for both the 4-cylinder T5, and the V8 T5. I can't remember the Web site, but there is a site that will help identify the transmission if you still have the tag, or by using the engineering number on the case.

Michael you've always given me great advice and I just bought a subscription to your magazine. I have another question for you
When I turn the steering wheel all the way to back out or pull forward I/ve recently noticed a thumping or cluncking sound, can that be in the rack, tie rods or the control arms. the car has new lower ball joints on it.
Also which power rack and pinion ratio is the firmest and quickest the 15-1 or 20-1?

By my count that's actually two questions, but since you finally subscribed, I'll give both a shot. LOL I experienced that same sound in my 94 Cobra, and what I found was that the sway bar end link had broken. I'm not sure what was making the noise, but when I installed a new end link, I never heard the sound again. With a Fox body, what might be happening is your wheels' balancing weights (if they're mounted on the inside of the wheel) might be hitting the inner frame rails, too. Check to make sure the lower control arm bolts are good and tight. What you can also do is jack up the front of the car, and with the car up on jackstands have someone turn the wheel to full lock and see if you can replicate the noise. As for the rack and pinion, the 15:1 ratio is the quicker. Your GT should've had this ratio from the factory, and it's the one you want. As far as I know, there's no difference in firmness. If you need a new rack, make sure it comes with new outer tie rods, as well. Good luck, and let me know how everything turns out; pun intended. LOL

Michael, Many thanks!!! Now I have another question
The engine on my 1988 5.0ho is totally stock and I have no plans of using a larger camshaft, I want to upgrade to a Cobra/GT40 or maybe a Edelbrock intake setup. Which throttle body would be best for this stock setup the 65mm or 70mm?

Either one will be fine for your combo. Check the classified area of several Mustang Web sites, and maybe Craigslist for deals. Whichever one you get make sure to "port" the intake opening to the same size as the throttle body. Food for thought, you would benefit from 1.7 rockers for a few extra horses, as well.

I decided to go with the Cobra manifold and a 65mm throttle body. Aside from the price which brand of throttle body do you prefer or recommend. What do you feel is the better choice the BBK, Professional Products or the Holley. My mechanic also recommended that I use the EGR spacer plate with the cobra manifold but according to what I'm reading, it basically says that the plate isnt needed with it. Whats your opinion on this.
