When I first start my car up and drive for 30 mins or so its fine but after about a hour it never moves just sits in the middle of gauge. I hope its just gauge cause Im having fuel gauge problems too the needle just goes all way past full some times. But whats so wierd the car runs great so I feel like its got good oil pressure. Can anyone help?

It's a product of the oil heating up, and getting thinner. I believe you want to see at least 10 pounds of oil pressure per 1,000 RPM. You can always put a manual oil pressure gauge on it to make sure everything's ok. If your LX has a ton of miles on it, a fresh, new oil pump is not a bad idea.

No, that's not a lot of miles, especially on a 5.0, but it depends on how the car was treated during those 85K miles that's important. If maintenance was not high on the previous owner's priority list the engine could be sludged up. I still think you need to put a more accurate oil pressure gauge in the car to really see what's happening, but if you choose to replace the oil pump, get a standard volume oil pump.

there's probably actually no problem at all! It's common for them to ride in the middle of the gauge. Remember, it's just a dummy gauge.

If you're feeling paranoid, you could buy a new oil pressure sender and see if that changes it. They're less than ten bucks at an auto parts store and can be changed in five minutes. Or you could buy an Auto Meter gauge and sender kit. Their sender comes with the right adapters to bolt right in, and they're accurate.

It occurs to me though that you didn't mention what weight oil you're using. I run Mobil1 15W-50 in mine, but I had a friend that used to swear by 5W-30. If the car was raised on 50wt oil and you switched it to 30, it would show a noticeable drop in pressure.

I'm not gonna say you'll feel any difference... but the gauge will probably show a difference. The way I always heard it was modular motors and a lot of the japanese stuff uses light weight oil because they have TIGHT tolerances, but these old dinosaur motors of ours run great with 50wt. You could split the difference and go 40wt, but I've been using 50wt Mobil1 in my 5.0s since 1993.
