Hi I just recently bought a 1990 gt and it is giving me all sorts of problems. I put a battery in it and the positive terminal started smoking after about 20 minutses of cranking off and on. I cant tell if the silinoid is bad because for the most part it just chatters. It did crank 5 times. I can read to ground from the hot side of the silinoid to the ground can someone please help me. thank you

your best bet is to have a local mechanic look at it. You just can't diagnose stuff like that over the 'net.
