ok i just swapped from a stock upper and lower intake to a cobra upper and lower, a 75mm throttle body and mass air flow sensor, it had 24lbs injectors on the fuel rail but one was missing and i'm not able to get one right now so i reinstalled my stock 19lbs injectors. ok every since i have installed this the car idles like i have a hell of a cam in it but i dont and stammers all over itself in the lower rpms 1000-3000 and doesn't have any power in the upper rpms 3000-5000 and also backfires through the intake. i can also smell the exhaust in the car when it warms up really strong any ideas? should i just go back to stock? thanks

Check for any vacuum leaks. I know the Cobra intake has a different vacumm hose routing so that's the first thing I would do. Did you reinstall a 19lb/hr compatible mass air meter with the 19lb/hr injectors?

thanks for the reply man i did check and all the vaccum hoses are good but i was sucking a little air in through the upper intake, fixed that problem, but now a really strage one maybe you can help me on this. i have had this car for about a year and i never noticed before but the egr did not have a hose ran to it when i installed the new upper and lower i ran a hose to it and thats whats causing it to run like there is a hell of a cam in it. if i unhook it it runs smooth and doesn't cut out. i replaced it and still the same result, is there a chance i do have a big cam in it and didn't know it or is the egr telling my car to do something weird? oh and i am running the 19lbs mass air meter. I'm really lost everyone i talked to told me to just leave the egr unhooked and plug the vaccume but when i do that the check engine light stays on???? thanks for all your help!

Ok, if it didn't idle like this before the intake swap, and you're using the same cam, I would tend to think the EGR isssue needs addressing. Did you have the EGR hooked-up before the intake swap? How did that work out? Do you still have the vacuum tree as part of the EGR system? You may want to check out a 93 Cobra to see where it goes. I know my '94 Cobra wouldn't idle right until I hooked-up the EGR to the vacuum tree. Once I did it now purrs like a kitten.

thanks for all your time i am running the stock mass air sensor withe the stock 19lbs injectors. i have the egr disconnected and plugged right now but i do want to hook it back up correctly, by chance do you remember where on the vaccume tree you plugged in your egr? i looked up a diagram but to be honest i couldn't make any sense of it

I just looked at a Fox body GT, and the EGR valve connection at the vacuum tree was a dark colored line. On my '94 Cobra, I have it connected to the green line on the vacuum tree. I have to assume you're missing a few things under the hood, like the vacuum tree connector to the appropriate connections? Let me know. Thanks.

on mine there is the vaccume tree that controls the brake booster it has the s on it for source and a few others that are plugged, on the left side of my firewall are what appear to be vaccumm lines i think there's a red, green, black and something else but they have all been cut and dont have any vaccume cumming through them could that be my prob?

The vacuum tree on the passenger side is the one I am speaking of. Try taking a piece of vacuum hose and connect the two. See if that helps any.
