I am wanting to purchase a convertible Mustang 87-93 GT.  I have found one on a dealer lot and it is an 89 but it has a Cobra emblem on the left side and on the engine block.  I am confused becasue I thought that 93 was the only year between 87 and 93 that a Cobra was produced.  I have looked up the vin number and it comes back 1989 mustang gt/cobra gt.  Nothing is adding up, and I can't find information anywhere that would verify if this car is a cobra or a gt.  I appreciate any information that any one has to offer.

That mustang is not a cobra. The fox body cobra was produced in 1993. The car in the dealer just has a cobra emblem, which is what I think from what you said, or it might aslo have the cobra manifold when you open the hood and check it out...

I saw in a different thread earlier today that a gt/cobra indeed exist. The only thing is that this was a car released in canada and had no engine upgrades as compared to the US '93 cobra. Hope this helps!!!

I just bought an 89 GT. 5.0. H.0.  5 speed Convertable. The title say's it's a GT. Cobra. That's what the title say's Mustang GT Cobra. But I keep hearing they don't exist? So what's up......Any how it's a really nice car 75000 orig. miles 1 owner. leather int. And fun to drive.

Everyone's right, there wasn't a Fox Cobra until '93. That title isn't correct.

But, it doesn't really matter. Sounds like you've got a nice car, and a good foundation for a fun Fox project.

What's your plans for mods? Because it's a convertible, you should at least look at a pair of subframe connectors for the car. The Fox convertibles were notoriously flexy, a pair of subframe connectors will fix that, make driving and handling much better, and let you put more horsepower in the car later on.

I agree SF connectors are a must then gears , I've heard of cars flexing so much doors pop open during hard cornering
