Idle problem

I have a '91 GT with AOD which I bought new. It now has 170k miles on it. Recently I have had a problem with it going dead. After start up,when it idles down,it goes completely dead. If I hold my foot gently on the pedal and ease off slowly it will stay running, but just barely. About 600 rpm. Same thing at stoplights and signs. Fortunately I'm a left foot braker.

I've checked for vaccum leaks but haven't found any.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds like either the Throttle Air Bypass valve is going bad, or the Map Sensor. Usually idle problems like yours are caused by this.

Check the fuel filter and also clean out the Idle air bypass valve. If it were a map or other sensor your check engine light would come on unless disconnected.

Thanks for the advice guys. It was a bad idle air control.
