Save my Cobra!

I've got a problem. I'm 18 years old and I'm on my second car, a 1996 Mustang Cobra. Before the Cobra I had a 94 GT with lots of mods, including a Pro5.0 shifter. Recently I put the Pro5.0 shifter in my Cobra because theoritically the GT is a t-5 (right?) and the Cobra is a t-45 and the swap should work. However now I don't have 5th gear! I have to baby it into 5th or else it gets kicked out. I have already replaced the clutch, flywheel, and fork arm. The real problem is that I dont think it's the transmission because I drove the car from Detroit back to Virginia when I first bought the car and had no problems with 5th gear but then the stock B&M Ripper that came with the Cobra was in place. HELP! Your help would be appreciated.

Does this shifter have adjustable stops.  Usually this consists of a bolt that prevents the shifter handle from being pulled too far back.  It sounds like the shifter stop needs to be adjusted.

Yes it does have adjustable stops, however if the car goes into 1st and 3rd fine isnt that using the same adjustable stop? If I take the screw and screw it further in for a longer throw do you think this will work? Thank you for your help

It may help, but I think you want to unthread the bolt.  This will allow the shifter to properly seat the ball that locks you into gear.  Maybe the internals of 2nd and 4th are set up different (I don't know that much about the internals of the trans yet).  The problem could definitely be somewhere else, but you may be able to solve your immediate problem with the adjuster bolt.  Let me know if it works!

Thank you for your help. I took the adjustable stop back 1 turn and it was far enough to allow for the shifter to go into 5th gear. So apparently the T-45 transmission has a slighty further throw than the T-5 transmission in my 1995 Mustang.
